Fashion portfolio – light effect

In these pages, I’m trying to find a way to express my target group.

The light effect is very inspiring, lots of designers have used it in their collection, mostly in digital printing. In the shop, I saw this amazing black shiny fabric, it has different reflection to light, so I put it inside my sketchbook, as many of the solutions for the final project.

During this stage, I’m still not starting to really “design” anything, so researches about different fabric, is a way to break through the ice.

Portfolio display – colour

My design was tend to be colour trend driven. So I selected some of the most important pages from my design sketchbook and fashion portfolio to show how it appears to be what it looks like now.

Design sketchbooks:

Inspired by geometric and plane’s different shapes. added colour fashion pictures and art piece as support evidence, mood board and design page. Pictures was found on the internet and printed out with resources.

Fashion portfolios:

Putting all of the evidence with notes and explaination, make it more simple and easier to understand. More importantly, put them in orders. With hand made batik and embroidery samples to show different solution to create colour vision. Colour trend investigation – mainly from textile view

Page Topic: flight inspired travel fashion

Beauty of moving air planes

Every design needs a main inspiration, it can’t be just random things like chairs, birds. It need something to be put in the middle then everything goes around need will be easier. After I have the idea the next thing I wanted to do is to find this key inspirations. I was a little bit distracted by lots and lots of nature pictures because they are so wonderful, but then this thought came to my mind: why dont I go find inspirations from the air plane itself?

Most of the air planes are designed likely to flying creatures, with the metal body and stiff look, it will be a good inspiration for garment that wanted to show protection and feminine look. It took a while to decide which way to go first. I choose these moving air planes with smokes to resembulance different kind of fabric. Like I said, this was only the beginning, so I’m just as confused as everybody, I didn’t know where this was going to be like in the end, but I just kept doing it.

These 4 pages are taken from my folio.  I was still exploring the beauty of moving air planes. The writting and doodling shows my initial ideas and what I’ve thought was amazing from the air plane itself. Of course massive planes pictures was found and printed out, I selected some of the good ones, pasted on my sketchbook and wrote explaination. This is a good way to record the path I’ve been through, maybe not long later, I will be able to use these information again !

At the same time, I keep the research of travel with planes and kept the useful information with notes in my portfolio. Going through website is easy, everyone can do that, but how to record it? How to show that the information is or will be useful to my further design? You need to find your own way to achieve that.:)

Protection

Like most of the animal will do, human choose to protect themselves from danger via different things. The initial purpose of clothes, is to protect them from the cold, after million of years, clothes now more become a media to show personalities.
Here I am, choosing to go back to nature, use protection as one of my design purpose. I learn that when people go travel, they might be bothered by strangers, noise, or maybe filthy environment, how to change this by designing clothes? well, I think a best inspiration can be from pilot’s helmet.
As my design journal shows, these beautiful helmet not just provide the concept of protection, but present themselves as art craft that can inspire me from different ways.

In my portfolio, I explain more about my concept, how to execute it. Using more perfessional way as a “step 2” for illustrate my ideas to customers, provide them more information is why I’m putting them together.With further information from websites, books and journals, I think this will be a very complete investigation and design process.

This is for explaining all the sleeves experiments that I’ve made. The one that I actually used in my final jacket is the simple single pocket and divice pocket. Here’s the introduction in my essay:

2.3 Sleeves pockets
Continuing of the transformable pockets idea, to make sleeves also stuff containable became the next aim of the project. It sounds very unfamiliar and the truth is it’s rarely appeared in the market as well, not because nobody has thought about it, but for it’s controversial usages. It’s like the customers first use an iMac, the huge differences between IOS and Windows system is the convincible reason, and the situation with getting use to a pocket on sleeve might also take quite some times.

2.4 Sleeves devices pocket
Sleeves devices pockets, when people first hear this name they might be very confused – what’s the meaning of it? The inspiration from this topic is a personal ideal solution for how to “eat and watch cell phone during dinning on a plane”. Airplane is as well known as very limited space for customers to move around, unless it’s not economic seats. When the small table is putting down it’s nearly impossible to move arms freely, not to mention when the food’s coming, using cell phone when eating is only possible if someone has a third hand. Hence making a sleeve that contains a pocket for cell phone or other stuff seem like a dream project to achieve.
To really think deep about it, there’s a big problem of finding a visible fabric for the devices pockets, especially when it comes to iPhone, it has to get fingers contact for the electric touching screen to work. After finding this crucial problem, fabric development is definitely the affective motion of all times.

Portfolio layout 1

This is the first 4 pages of my Portfolio, to make it look more perfessional and fit to the theme, I choose the main colour as the background and did a little design of it as well. The main idea is to show the project that I’be been doing for the last semester, and these 4 pages illustrated the project’s name, trend investigation, colour researches and inspiration brand.

Portfolio first page design (unfinished)

The first page of a portfolio is very very important, because it’s the first thing that viewer will see, at some point it shows people what kind of designer you are based on whatever the drawing or calligraphy you’re choosing. Being aware of this I have selected a very delicate classic ornament  to draw on.

Because it’s the first page so I treated it very carefully, I use pencils to draw the basic line of the graph, then I used a round tip dip pen to draw the value and details, after detailing I use pencil again the draw some squares for writting my name. In the finished work I used calligraphy but because the portfolio is not in my hand now so I won’t be able to show the picture. THX 🙂
